Our friends have a big influence on us. Who we choose to spend our time with will influence us for good or for bad. King Ahab was not a good guy but after he married Jezebel he became an even worse guy.  We need to make sure that we are choosing friendships that will lift us up, encourage us, and lead us to right choices...not ones that drag us down.

Main Lesson:
Do you like Star Wars or superhero movies? In them there is always a bad guy and good guy trying to defeat him. Take Star Wars for instance, one of the worst bad guys of all time was Darth Vader. He dressed the part in all black, lived on a spaceship that could destroy entire planets, and got his powers from the “dark side”.

However, even Darth Vader didn’t start out as a bad guy.  He was once a sweet, kind slave boy...until he made a bad friend named Palpatine who worked hard to (and succeeded in) convince him to turn bad.

The friends we keep have a big influence on us, and the closer the friend the more influence they have.

In today’s story we will learn about two bad guys: King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.

Read 1 Kings 21:1-16

King Ahab wanted Naboth’s land and offered to buy it, yet when Naboth didn’t sell Ahab turned bad guy and threw a temper tantrum. Then Jezebel enters, takes matters into her own hands, has Naboth killed, and Ahab took the land he wanted.

Good friends can influence you to make good Christ like decisions...and bad friends tend to do the opposite. They can influence you to gossip, bully, and do things you wouldn’t have thought of doing on your own.

Jezebel had the opportunity to influence Ahab into making better choices but instead she made a bad king even worse. Seeing this happen, God had had enough.

Read 1 Kings 21:20-26

Ahab chose Jezebel and they did evil in the Lord’s eyes and were punished for their sins. They both died in awful ways and didn’t leave a legacy of any good behind them.

Wow. If Ahab had chosen to marry a kind, Godly women he may have turned from his wicked ways.  Instead, he chose a wicked wife who influenced him to be an even wickeder king.

Conclusion:
We have choices in the company we keep. God wants us to love others and be a friend to ALL (the good guys and the bad guys). However, you can still choose who you spend the most time with. Even just spending time with the wrong crowd to “fit in” can cause your Godly light to dim and change how people feel about you and about Christ.
