Keep the Faith…God Can Still Use You!
Week 3: Gideon
Bible Reading: Judges 6:12-17, 36-40; 7:19-21
Hey kids! We are on week 3 of our series. I talked about Sarah the first week and talked about her questioning God’s promise to her, last week we talked about Rahab and how she made bad choices in life, her faith was greater and God used her to help the Israelites take control of the Promised Land.
This week, we will be talking about Gideon. Gideon was one of Israel’s judges…but he was scared and that made him question God.
Gideon’s story is found in Judges 6-8.
Discussion Questions:
Read Judges 6:12-17, 36-40; 7: 19-21
1. What things was Gideon afraid of?
2. What things did Gideon ask God to do to show him that He was with the Israelites?
3. What are some things that scare you?
4. When you’re scared, what can you do?
5. Gideon had faith and finally obeyed God. What great thing did God help Gideon do?
Main Point:
Gideon was afraid that he didn’t have the skills and ability to beat the Midianites. He asked God to show him signs that God will save Israel and will be with him when the fight.
**Don’t let the fear of not being enough or the fear of failing at something keep you from all God wants you to do. Obey Him, have faith that He will help you because He will use the things (skills & abilities) He has given you to do His plan.
Conclusion:
Like you and I, Gideon was afraid. He thought that he didn’t have what it took to beat Israel’s enemy; the Midianites…
**It took some time for God to show Gideon that He was with Him and would help him defeat the Midianites. Gideon finally had the faith to do as God told him, and he did it well. Gideon was a servant of God and God used him in great ways.
Application:
1. I want all of you to find a Bible verse, or maybe you already have one to help you in times of doubt or when you’re having a hard time trusting God. Memorize it!
I will be needing this later this month! ;)
2. We just sang the song “You Make Me Brave” and it has a line in it that says: “You make me brave, you call me from the shore into the waves”. I want you to think of something that God is calling you to do, or that he has called you to do in the past and draw a picture of it. It could be anything like: making a new friend, saying you’re sorry, or praying in a public place (park, restaurant, etc.). As you draw this picture I want you to realize that God is always with you and His love, His Word can give you courage in your life to show Christ to others.
