WEEK 2: Rahab

Keep the Faith…God Can Still Use You!

Week 2: Rahab

Bible Reading: Joshua 2: 1-24; 6:22-25

Introduction: Click Here!

Howdy! Last week I introduced a new series! I talked about Sarah last week and that she questioned God’s promise that she will have a son at her old age. Though she questioned and even lied to God when she said she didn’t laugh, God still blessed her and she became the mother of a nation. We too doubt and question, but we need to keep our faith in God.

This week, we will be talking about Rahab. Though Rahab didn’t question God like Sarah did, she did not make the best decisions. These decisions were not healthy for her, for her heart, and were not pleasing to God. However, God still used her to help His people take control of the promised land.
Rahab’s story is found in Joshua 2 & 6.

Discussion Questions:

Read Joshua 2:1-24
1.   Who was Rahab? (She was a woman living in Jericho and she did not make very wise choices. These choices were not pleasing to God.)
2.  When the two spies came to her, what did she do? (She hid and protected them from the angry people and king of Jericho)
3.  Why did Rahab help them? (The people of Jericho feared the Israelites and she knew God was guiding them and preparing them to take the land. She believed that God was directing them.)
4.  Similar to question #3, Why do you think God led the spies to Rahab’s house? (God knew her heart was open to knowing Him.)

5.  What did Rahab have to do in order to keep her and her family safe when the Israelites attacked Jericho?
o   Read Joshua 2:18-19—Really look at her faith in God!
6.  How did Rahab’s faith save her and her family?
o   Read Joshua 6:25

Main Point:
Rahab made bad decisions, decisions that the Lord would not want her to make. You and I don’t make the best choices sometimes. Rahab is a great example of how God can use you for amazing things because of faith. Rahab took a huge step of faith when she hid the two spies. She lived in Jericho…she was not an Israelite. Though she wasn’t born of God’s people, she was a part of God’s great plan to lead His people into the land. Rahab feared the Israelites because she heard of all the amazing things God did to save them from Egypt.

Although she made bad choices, she turned to God and was open to Him. She didn’t let her past affect what God was wanting her to do. That gave her the courage to hide the two spies even though the people of Jericho were angry. Her heart to know God and her faith that she will be protected were greater than her fear and that saved her and her family.

**Don’t let what you’ve done that was bad lead you to believe that God can’t use you or that you aren’t good enough. When that happens, pray to God that His truth becomes clear to you. You are worth it!

Conclusion:
Like you and I, Rahab didn’t make the best decisions…But…
**She was the only other woman (besides Sarah) that was listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11. She was a relative to Boaz and therefore was an ancestor (relative) of King David and ultimately of Jesus.

Application:
Keep thinking about these 2 things I talked about last week:

1.   Mother’s Day is coming up on May 10th. What is something you can do to show how much you love and appreciate her or your grandma, aunt, any woman that is special to you.
o   Make a nice card, help dad cook breakfast for her, write a poem to her, do the dishes for her, help her plant the garden or help with yard work, etc.

2.  I want all of you to find a Bible verse, or maybe you already have one to help you in times of doubt or when you’re having a hard time trusting God. Memorize it!
I will be needing this later in May! ;)

Families, on Friday, May 8th @ 4-6 P.M. and Saturday, May 9th @ 10-12 P.M., come join us at the church for the Sidewalk Chalk Project. We will be there decorating sidewalk squares! Come as a family and pick a square to decorate! Since it’s Mother’s Day this weekend, maybe create something for your mom! J

WEEK 1: Keep the Faith...God Can Still Use You! 🙌🏼

Keep the Faith…God Can Still Use You!
Week 1: Sarah

Bible Reading: Genesis 18:1-15

Introduction: Click Here!

Hello kids! Over the next 5 weeks, we will be learning about some very important people in the Bible that God used in His plan to save us even though these individuals disobeyed Him. Even though they disobeyed, they kept their faith in God and He still used them in amazing ways…becoming part of the greatest event in history.

This week, we are going to talk about Sarah! Her story is found in Genesis 11-25.

Discussion Questions:
Read Genesis 18:1-15
1.   Who was she? (She was the wife of Abraham)
2.  What did she (and Abraham) want, but couldn’t? (A child)
3.  Why couldn’t she have a child? (She was too old to have a child)
4.  What was God’s promise to her and to Abraham? (A son and be the start of a nation)
o   Genesis 12:2-3
5.   After reading Genesis 18:1-15, what did Sarah do in verse 12? (She laughed)
6.  Read verses 13-14. What did God say?

Main Point:
Sarah laughed because she didn’t believe she was going to have a baby at her old age. She doubted God's promise....He said she would have a son? Sarah even lied to God when He said she laughed in verse 15.

Although she didn’t believe God, lied to Him saying she didn’t laugh, and did not trust God’s timing and she would do things on her own, she still went back to her faith in God.

Conclusion:
Sarah disobeyed just like you and I do, but God saw her faith and used her even though she sinned.

**Sarah became the mother of a nation just as God promised…and she’s in the bloodline of Jesus. She is the first woman listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11.

Application:
Kids, I want you to start thinking about 2 things this week:

2.  I want all of you to find a Bible verse, or maybe you already have one to help you in times of doubt or when you’re having a hard time trusting God. Memorize it!
